Won't These Charges Simply Encourage People to Shop Elsewhere?

The charges we have agreed are competitive with those already being charged by similar sized towns and considerably cheaper than many. While car parking in Swadlincote is currently free, it will be a matter for South Derbyshire District Council how long they continue with this policy. While a subsidised bus service is being offered to Fosse Park, the range of shops there are very different to those in our town centres.

The charges will also allow a greater turnover of spaces for use by shoppers - a particular issue in Ashby where we have also negotiated with the Royal Hotel for their car park to be used as a long-stay public car park subject to the same terms and conditions as the other town centre car parks. This will be particularly beneficial to long stay parkers in Ashby
