Junior Citizen is an annual event held for two weeks each June where children from Year 6 in local state primary schools participate in learning about safety. The event is held at Snibston Discovery Park Coalville. The emphasis of the sessions is to gain knowledge and information about keeping safe but in a way that is enjoyable for the young people taking part.
At each situation they will be expected to point out the dangers, answer questions, react in a safety conscious manner and obtain help from the relevant emergency service if required.
Advice will be given on the safest way to deal with the problems.
They are assessed on their knoweldge and actions and their class teachers receive the assessments in order that follow-up work can be undertaken.
It should be pointed out that this is not a competition. The assessments are purely to facilitate follow-up work on safety.
