Free Health Checks – Your Health Matters!

Date of Release: Tue 31st January, 2012

Local residents are being encouraged to come along for a FREE health check at a Well Families Clinic in Ibstock on 7th February 2012.

Organised by North West Leicestershire District Council, the Well Families Clinics help people make positive changes to their lives and include free cholesterol, blood pressure and body mass index screenings.

The Ibstock clinic will be held on Tuesday, 7th February 2012 at The Palace Community Centre, High Street, Ibstock between 2.30pm and 5.30pm.

Councillor Alison Smith, North West Leicestershire District Council’s Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Community Services, said: “Our Well Families Clinics have proven to be extremely successful and could unearth health problems you never even knew existed.

“As a Council, we’re passionate about helping our communities thrive in every way and these clinics play an important part in help residents to both get fit and stay healthy. I hope people take advantage of these free screenings and grasp this opportunity to change their lives for the better.”

At the previous clinic in Coalville a total of nine people, all of whom were unaware of having high cholesterol and blood pressure, were referred to their own GP’s for further advice.

As well as the free health screenings, these successful clinics offer a range of health and well-being advice, including information on how to stop smoking, mental health issues, diet and nutrition, benefit advice, details of activities in the District, and much more.

There are fun exercise challenges for all ages and free healthy snacks and fruit juices to try during the afternoon.

Further details are available in local venues in the Ibstock area or by contacting Julie Summerton on 01530 454541 or email julie.summerton@nwleicestershire.gov.uk
