Getting A "Fare" Deal
Date of Release: Thu 2nd February, 2012
Residents of North West Leicestershire will soon not have to worry about being over charged when taking a taxi.
Installation of fare meters is already under way and by 2013 all taxis licensed by North West Leicestershire District Council will have fare meters fitted. The decision to introduce fare meters was agreed at the Council's November Licensing Committee meeting.
All new taxi vehicle applications will have to have a meter fitted before they can be licensed. And any taxis currently licensed with the Council will have to have a calibrated meter fitted before their licence can now be renewed.
Councillor Alison Smith Deputy Leader of North West Leicestershire District Council and Portfolio Holder for Community Services said: ‘We as a Council want to ensure residents are happy with the services provided. Getting a "fare" deal is what we all want!"
