Excellence in council legal practice rewarded with eighth Lexcel accreditation

The legal services team at North West Leicestershire District Council (NWLDC) is celebrating after it retained its Lexcel accreditation for the eighth year running.

Lexcel is the Law Society’s quality mark for legal practice. NWL Legal Focus joins just 14 other local government teams in the Midlands that have received this stamp of approval, proving it provides excellence in legal practice management and in client care. It is the only district council in the region to receive the accreditation.

In her report, Lexcel Assessor Debbie Fowler spoke positively about the team, which provides legal advice to a range of external clients as well as council services, comparing it very favourably in relation to private practice:

“The practice is to be highly commended for the high management/supervision standards found and the positive team approach. In many instances the standards found upon assessment surpassed those in private practice. The assessor also found that the practice had Lexcel firmly bedded into its everyday operational activities.”

Elizabeth Warhurst, Head of Legal and Support Services at NWLDC, said: “We are very proud that our dedication to providing excellent service has paid off by being Lexcel accredited for an eighth year in a row.

“Recent years have seen our team take on work from a range of external clients and create partnerships with private practice that extend both our reach and the development of our team.

“We welcome the assessor’s report, which highlights where we are excelling and where we can make small changes to improve further.”
