Results of North West Leicestershire District Council Planning Committee – Tuesday 1 August

At the meeting of Planning Committee held on Tuesday 1 August, five planning applications were permitted and one was rejected. Please see the table below for more detail.

An application for up to 270 homes and associated works on land at Thornborough Road, Coalville, was refused by the committee.

The application also proposed the creation of public open space, access points from both Thornborough Road and Spring Lane, and a new car park for New Swannington Primary School.

Speaking about the decision, Chairman of Planning Committee, Councillor David Stevenson said: “Members are taking regard of the submitted Local Plan, which is gaining real traction as it progresses closer towards adoption.

“This is giving the committee confidence to make bold decisions, such as the refusal of this application, which falls outside the development limits in both the current and submitted Local Plan.”

Six further applications were heard by the planning committee.

Committee members approved the appearance, layout, scale and access of three homes on land in Loughborough Road, Coleorton. This application already had outline approval, which had established the principle of building three homes on the land, from a previous meeting of the committee.

An application to add a takeaway and home delivery service to a former restaurant in Borough Street, Castle Donington was also approved by the committee.
