Business Rates
Non-Domestic Rates (Business Rates), collected by local councils are the means by which businesses and others who occupy non-domestic property make a contribution towards the cost of local services. Except in the City of London where special arrangements apply, the rates are pooled by central government and redistributed to local councils according to the number of people living in the area.
This money, together with revenue from Council Tax payers, Revenue Support Grant provided by the Government and certain other sums, is used to pay for the services provided by your local council and other local authorities in your area.
Business Rates are dealt with by the Council's Revenues team, who also deal with Council Tax. The Revenues team is part of the new Leicestershire Revenues & Benefits Partnership, which has been formed by three Local Authorities to work together to provide better services to the residents of North West Leicestershire District Council, Harborough District Council and Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council.
The Council's business rates web pages cover the main information about business rates, plus any announcements about upcoming legislative changes, for detailed information on business rates please go to the Gov.uk Website. The new Gov.uk website contains information about all aspects of starting and running a business.
