NWL Partenrship in safer communities Logo

The Safer North West Partnership has has a proven track record of success in delivery. In 2009/10 North West Leicestershire saw the most improved performance in the County, and for the first time recorded crime has reduced across all categories.

Some of the key successes that we have seen in the district in relation to crime trends are as follows (data relates to November 2008 - November 2009):

  • Acquisitive crime down by 12.2% (823-723)
  • Domestic burglary down by 19.1% (215-174)
  • Robbery down by 11.1% (18-16)
  • Anti Social Behaviour down by 9.8% (2625-2369)

The Place Shaping Survey has consistently placed ‘crime and disorder’ as the most important issue for the Community.

Some of the Partnerships’ key successes in the past have been:

  • Respect Challenge 2009-10 - this is the third year we have run this event. 11 young peoples’ projects have been funded, and 3 nominated organisations have received an award.
  • Domestic Violence Outreach and IDVA Posts – these workers have offered invaluable support to local victims of domestic abuse.
  • Safe 2010 – this is the second year that the Youth Council has hosted this event. On the 17 February 2010 we held a day session to give out community safety information to approximately 200 local people. In the evening we held workshops on key safety issues that affect young people. The event was sponsored by United Biscuits and Live Nation.
  • Not in My Neighbourhood Week – in November 2009 we held our public consultation with local people. The Police beat bus visited many locations and provided community safety information and the opportunity for residents to tell us what issues affect them.
  • Mediation Service– This is the second year that the Anti Social Behaviour Co-ordinator has been able to make use of mediation services for neighbour disputes. All 10 cases have successfully engaged with the independent mediator to resolve their issues.
  • Impact Team – a special team has been successfully working with young people in the District to encourage positive behaviour.
  • Stop and Tell Campaign - in January 2010 we held our first hate crime awareness week to raise awareness and encourage reporting.

The district's Safer North West Partnership has again refreshed the Community Safety Strategy , its structure and delivery plans for 2011-14. Details of this year’s priorities may be downloaded from the related documents attached to this site.
