Cycle Theft
Stopping Bike Thieves In Their Tracks
One bike is stolen every minute of the day in the UK and less than 5% of those are returned to their owners. By permanently marking a bike, and recording details on a secure database the Police can trace it back to the owner if it is stolen and recovered.
A FREE online registration service is now available which has been proven to reduce bike theft and assists in recovery of bikes that have been stolen.
Bikeregister is a secure, police-approved online database. The free self-registration service is offered as a Bronze package and involves the customer entering their bike’s details online and printing their own Log Book. This provides proof of ownership for the owner and any potential buyer. As long as the frame number of the bike is known, a customer can even register for the Bronze package after their bike has been stolen, so that if the Police find it they will be able to identify the owner.
Other packages are available at a small cost which offer added protection for bike owners such as labels, permanent ID marks and electronic datatags.
The marking immediately makes the bike a less attractive target for thieves and also assists the Police in quickly tracing the ownership of stolen bikes that have been recovered using the secure bikeregister database.
With the rise in popularity of online auction and classified sales websites, Bikeregister has also become a valuable resource in allowing buyers and sellers of second-hand bikes to quickly check the bike’s ID mark or frame number on the site to see if a prospective purchase is flagged up as stolen.
