Rights of Way Diversions

The District Council's Cultural Services team administer the creation, diversion and extinguishment of public Rights of Way in North West Leicestershire, if they are connected to an application for planning permission.  

Other changes to Rights of Way, including temporary diversions whilst building is underway, are dealt with by Leicestershire County Council's Highways Team.  email roadclosures@leics.gov.uk

Prior to applying for planning permission, if a right of way will be affected, please read the Guidance Notes for Developers - Footpath Diversions (PDF Document, 0.16 Mb).  For further advice about design please contact Leicesershire County Council's Rights of Way team - email footpaths@leics.gov.uk

Once outline planning permission has been granted and it is noted that a Right of Way needs to be diverted, an application should be made to divert the route.

Preliminary consultation will ideally take place before full planning permission is granted, capturing any comments before the final plans are agreed.

A plan needs to accompany the application form.  For advice and guidance on what is expected for the plan, please contact Leicestershire County Council's Rights of Way team - footpaths@leics.gov.uk prior to sending in the application form or see examples below of previous applications.
