Housing - Mediation
If you are having conflict and constant arguments with the people you live with, North West Leicestershire District Council’s Housing Advice Team can offer mediation. Mediation is for individuals, this could be family members, guardians or friends who are no longer willing to accommodate a member of their household. With the help of a trained mediator everyone involved has a chance to talk about what is bothering them. Then the mediator will work through everyone’s differences and try and come up with solutions that works for everyone.
Mediation could be useful in the following situations;
- Where partners have issues which are non-violent.
- A young person who is constantly arguing with and parents, step-parents or guardians.
- Friends who are house sharing but constantly fall out about household tasks.
This is a free service it is funded by the Council.
A Mediator will arrange an appointment to visit individuals in their own homes or another suitable location. At the first meeting the mediator will advise participants of the mediation process. Mediation is a voluntary and confidential process where individuals and not the mediator will decide the terms of agreements reached.
Mediation is intended to help reduce homelessness for individuals who may be forced to leave home because of a disagreement with family, friends or partners.
Please contact the Housing Advice Team at the Council for more information about Mediation Services.
