Recycling, Rubbish and Waste

Composting fun day

NWLDC recycling containersThe Council provides a comprehensive kerbside recycling scheme and currently recycles over 43% it's waste. In this section you will find lots of information and fun facts about reducing, reusing and recycling in North West Leicestershire, so have a look around and feel free to contact us with any questions or queries.

43% is a really good recycling rate, it means that NWLDC is way above the national average, and it goes to prove how much opur residents like to recycle. The recycling service we offer is very comprehensive, and over 60% of residents' waste could be recycled in the scheme, which means we have plenty of room for improvement over the next few years.

We have a number of different containers for different materials and we do this to make sure the quality of the material collected is always the best quality. All of our material goes to reprocessors in the UK, which means there is less travelling for the materials before they are recycled, saving both CO2 emissions and money.

Waste Collection Commitment

The Waste Collection Commitment sets out in plain English the principles which should underlie domestic waste and recycling collection services. By signing up to this voluntary service commitment North West Leicestershire is committing to ensuring that the needs of its residents are central to the design and delivery of their waste and recycling collection services.

We were one of the first Councils to sign up to the Commitment and we are working hard to keep our standards as high as possible. If you want to read more on the Commitment, or see the signed document, see the related documents below.
