Regeneration

Coalville is the administrative centre of North West Leicestershire District and is located at the heart of the National Forest. As its name suggests, the town grew up with the advent of coal mining during the 1820s and 30s. Textile and engineering industries also prospered in the town from the 19th to the late 20th centuries.

Following the demise of the coal mining, textile and engineering industries and alongside the advent of the motor car and changing demographics, Coalville town centre found itself in need of regeneration; a refreshment of the once vibrant heart of the town.

As with many towns across the country that grew as mining towns, Coalville is starting to re-invent itself. The Council has made the regeneration of Coalville one of it's four priorities for 2010/11, and aims to change Coalville into a modern market town, building on its location at the heart of the National Forest - a place which residents and businesses are proud to call their home.

With new developments and major investment planned for the town, you can find out what is happening and keep up to date with the latest news and events by visiting the Coalville's Changing website.
