Sports - Development

The benefits of developing your club are invaluable to its success. Increasing the number of members, gaining volunteers and securing funding is just the beginning of what we must achieve to keep our clubs alive. The Sports Development team aims to increase participation across each of our sports clubs, recruit new volunteers and help to secure funding. To achieve this we need to hear from you! The district Sport Development Officer is looking to develop a number of programmes to help improve your club. If you would like to know more information contact the Sports Development Officer by using the details below.

Funding Opportunities

Funding is a key element to successful community development. Sources are commonly used to acquire equipment, provide training for officials/volunteers and hire of facilities. More information on funding opportunities is available from Leicestershire and Rutland Sports website. North West Leicestershire Local Sports Alliance provides a Coach Education and Leadership Academy Grants Scheme for people in the District to gain coaching and officiating qualifications. Clubmark

Introducing Clubmark

Clubmark is a cross-sport quality accreditation for clubs with junior sections. According to research conducted by the Northwest Regional Development Agency in 2004, three fifths (60.5%) of young people belong to a sports club outside school. It is vital that these clubs serve young people well. Sports clubs that work with children and young people need and deserve support to improve the quality of work they do so that we can:

  • Ensure the well-being of young people whilst in the care of adults, other than their legal parent(s)/carer(s)
  • Enthuse young people to enjoy sport and active recreation to build a healthy and active lifestyle
  • Enable young people to use their leisure time creatively
  • Allow young people to optimise their talents and personal ability
  • Identify and support the development of the most talented young people

Further information on Club Mark is available from the Club Mark website.

School Sport

A School Sports Partnership (SSP) is a cluster of Secondary Schools/Colleges with their respective feeder Primary Schools. North West Leicestershire Sports Development team and North West Leicestershire School Sports Partnership works together to develop a number of key initiatives to get young people active in sport. Developing school and club links is the key stone to a life long participation in sport and the NWLSSP has a thriving relationship with many local clubs.

Disability Sport

North West Leicestershire District Council believes all its residents should have the same access to sport, leisure and recreational opportunities. The Sports Development Team recognises the diverse needs of the districts residents, and is committed to making the necessary steps to ensure equal sporting opportunities for all of its residents. The North West Leicestershire Sports Development Team works in partnership with Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport in helping change the culture and structure of sport to ensure that is it accessible to all members of our society whatever their ablity. If you are looking for local, regional or national disabled sports events give the Disability Sports Events website a visit!
