Street Care and Cleaning
In this area you will find information about all aspects of keeping the streets of North West Leicestershire clean and tidy, including details about dealing with dog fouling, fly-tipping and litter as well as help and advice on drainage matters
Please follow the advice below if you witness flooding:
· If flooding is from sewers, contact Severn Trent Water on 0800 783 4444. To assist them please have your postcode ready and record the incident number given to you. This may enable you to track your enquiry.
· If flooding is from roads contact Leicestershire County Council Highways on 0116 3051111. The problem may be highway drainage related or influenced by the capacity of Severn Trent Water Limited’s sewers serving the highway drains.
· If flooding is from main rivers (e.g. Trent, Soar, Mease, Sence and others) contact the Environment Agency Floodline: 0845 988 1188. Prior warnings of flooding from main rivers can be provided by email or text message by registering with the EA via the floodline number.
· If flooding is from ordinary rivers or streams it is the riparian owners (i.e. the landowners) responsibility to make sure that a watercourse is not obstructed. If you live on the edge of any watercourse you have a responsibility to ensure that it does not become obstructed. For further information on riparian responsibilities please download ‘Living On The Edge’ provided by the Environment Agency.
· If you think that your home is genuinely at risk of flooding and believe you need to protect your home with sandbags these can be purchased at DIY outlets. North West Leicestershire District Council has a limited number of sandbags available for collection at the Linden Way depot situated off Ashby Road, Coalville, LE67 3JY between the hours of 8am and 5pm Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) for domestic emergencies. Please contact Customer.Services@nwleicestershire.gov.uk to make arrangements for collection of sandbags between these hours. In an emergency situation we may be able to deliver sandbags depending upon individual circumstances and subject to available resources. For information on how to protect your home from flooding please visit the Environment Agency website.
