The Green Footprints Challenge aims to change the way we think about our local environment and to encourage us to take action to reduce our carbon footprint and improve opportunities for wildlife.

The Challenge was launched by North West Leicestershire District Council in April 2008 and is open to everyone across the district. So if you live, work or study in the area we really hope that you will sign up to the Challenge and encourage others to take part.

The challenge aims to raise the profile of 5 key actions which reduce our impact on the environment and on Climate Change:

  • Carbon Reduction
  • Travel
  • Energy
  • Biodiversity
  • Waste Reduction & Recycling

Over the course of the Challenge we will be encouraging businesses, households, schools, community groups and individuals to take action to improve their environmental performance. The Council will also be taking action to improve its own performance and reduce its carbon footprint.

At the end of each year, the Footprints Awards will celebrate the contributions made to improving the environment of North West Leicestershire by individuals, families, businesses, schools and community groups around the District.

More information can be found on the Green Footprints website.
