Take-Up Campaign

In the UK, millions of pounds in benefits go unclaimed each year. In North West Leicestershire we are committed to making sure that as many people as possible get all the benefits they are entitled to, by providing a free and confidential benefit check that is completed in the privacy of your own home.

We have two dedicated visiting officers who can visit you at home and complete all the paperwork to claim help with your council tax and/or rent payments. They can also give advice on other state benefits that you may be entitled to and refer you to the appropriate people to help you claim these benefits.

Nationally 2.5 million pensioners are living in poverty and 50% of people over pension age pay too much council tax. By having this free and confidential benefit check completed, we can get this figure reduced.

In the first three years of the benefit take-up campaign in North West Leicestershire, we awarded over £634,000 to people who had not previously claimed or tried to claim benefits. Some customers also received backdated benefit entitlement.

You may be entitled to help if you are on a low income. It does not matter if you already receive the 25% single occupier discount on your council tax or if you have other people living with you, such as relatives and/or friends, even if they work full time.

Normally you would not be entitled to claim if you have savings or investments of more than £16000 but this is not always the case. You may be entitled to other benefits if you are in poor health, your weekly income is low or if you care for someone.
