Time Limits to Appeal and Report Changes
There are certain procedures and time limits if you disagree with a decision made on your claim for Housing Benefit, Local Housing Allowance and/or Council Tax benefit, or if you have to tell the council about any changes.
If you have received a decision about your benefit and think it is wrong you can:
- Ask us to look at the decision again
- Ask us for an explanation of the decision
- Ask us for a statement of reasons
- Appeal to an independent appeal tribunal administered by the Appeals Service
If you want us to look at the decision again or if you want to appeal against it, you must do so within one month of the date on the decision letter.
You should also report any changes in your circumstances within one month. If you delay, you may only get an increase in your benefit from when you tell us about the change.
If you need any more information, please contact the Benefits Team.
