Much Ado About Wenlock
Wed 7th March, 2012
In 1850 the small Shropshire village of Much Wenloch hosted its very own 'Olympic games', an event that was an essential inspiration for the modern Olympics that began 46 years later. With London 2012 approaching, this highly acclaimed theatre company explore the Olympic games' unlikely UK roots in a dynamic and delightful show, enjoyable for all ages. Athletics and country sports combine with wheelbarrow races and a competition for a bag of tea, as the local community train for, and compete in, this amazing annual event. The butcher's wife practices her hammer throws with un-plucked pheasants, the postman uses letters and parcels to perfect his discus, the school children will do their very best... The whole Victorian housold is going for gold!
