Whitwick Party in the Park and Scarecrow Festival
Whitwick Party in the Park is held from 11am to 5pm at Whitwick Park, North Street, Whitwick. ALmost 3,000 people attended our event in 2013 to see Vikings and Star Wars and a Gospel Choir. There were lots of local business stalls and voluntary and community stalls in addition to many other attractions from childrens magic and puppets, Newfoundland dogs and a petting pony,
sports demonstrations, song and dance, and plenty of beef burgers and cakes too, not to mention ice cream. The Scarecrow Festival was new in 2013 with over 60 entries. We hope to encourage more people to display scarecrows around the village in 2014.

Snibston Miners' Gala - Coalville
Snibston Discovery Museum will open its doors to visitors with FREE admission and FREE car parking with a great fun filled day for the whole family to enjoy. The Gala is a great opportunity to remember and celebrate all things mining and to educate the younger generation on what life was like for the mining communities.
The event is always very popular with over 4,500 visitors attending in 2013.
There will be plenty for children to enjoy as they can ride a Pony, pets corner including Newfoundland dogs, goats. Also children’s’ face painter, Filbert the Fox and LCFC, children’s’ funfair rides and much more…!
This year there is a fantastic line up including a horticultural show, Miners’ first aid display, colliery tours, Snibston co-op brass band, a miners’ wives dolly tub demonstration, mining memorabilia, local history groups and displays, miners’ morning talks, delicious food and drink stalls and much more.
For the seventh year Hermitage FM radio will be comparing the event, and there will be music and dance from Leicestershire Snibston Co-Op brass band, Contrast Steel band, and Expressions Dance Display.
Avid gardeners can test their green fingered skills at the Horticultural Show. Judging will start at 1pm, with a range of prizes to reward the entrants' finest home-grown fruit, vegetables and flowers. Categories for cakes and jams and flower arrangements and a section for children are also available at the Horticultural Show.

Smile Smile Smile - WW1 - Century Theatre - Coalville
Smile! Smile! Smile! , the latest show by acclaimed historical musicians Blast from the Past has been especially created to mark the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War. Blast from the Past use music and song to tell the story of ‘The War to End All Wars’.
Smile! Smile! Smile! is a scintillating mixture of soldiers’ songs, music hall numbers, war poems set to new music and original compositions. The show does not flinch from conveying the full horror of the first global conflict but also celebrates the courage and humour of the tommies under fire and the folks at home.
Featuring a host of singalong wartime standards such as ‘Pack Up Your Troubles’, ‘Tipperary’ and ‘Goodbye-ee’ as well as a host of other great songs – ‘Smile! Smile! Smile!‘ is the perfect way of remembering the sacrifice of our forebears while enjoying a great evening out!

Whitwick and District U3A General Meeting
Whitwick and District U3A will be holding their monthly General Meeting on Friday 19th September. Members and visitors will have the opportunity to find out about new Interest Groups in addition to the well-established favourites.
September's speaker, Brian Johnson, will entertain us on the fascinating history of Leicestershire's village cinemas.

Conkers and Moira Furnace Family Bike Ride
A 9 mile led bike suitable for all ages around the Conkers, Ashby Woulds Heritage Trail and Ashby Canal cycle routes, taking a mid-ride break at Moira Furnace tearooms. Meet outside the entrance at Conkers Discovery Centre, Rawdon Rd, Moira, DE12 6GA at 11am, where there's free parking. The ride is organised by Mat Richardson, Active Travel Development Officer of the Leisure Services Team at North West Leicestershire District Council, and led by British Cycling trained ride leaders. Care4Paws Sunday Music Sessions - Leicester
Like listening to live music?
Woodside Animal Centre is bringing Leicester a brand new night of live music from some of the best local bands, as part of their dedicated mission to raise money to care for the animals they look after and rehome.
The line up includes artists such as Mia and the Moon, Violet Cities, and the Four Kicks, a Kings of Leon tribute band. What’s more is that there will be an on-site restaurant providing delicious food and drink and a charity raffle.
There will even be a pop-up Barrie Stephen salon, if you fancy a new festival hair do? It will be an undoubtedly good night of music, food, and fun! Care4Paws - Woodside Animal Shelter Gala Day
Are you an animal lover?
Well, the annual Woodside Animal Centre Gala Day will be an event you will not want to miss! There will be a dog show followed by an array of fun activities such as tombola’s, craft stalls and games for everyone to do and see. Most importantly there will be plenty of food and drink, including a yummy barbeque!
The Gala Day will take place at the Woodside Animal Centre on Sunday 21st September 2014, entry is £2 on the gate, so come see what it is all about and help raise money for charity!

At Indigo Acre we are holding Autumn workshops to teach some of the techniques of floristry.
Our next workshop is on 23rd Sept 2014 at 6.30pm and we will be working on seasonal doors wreaths as we approach Halloween and also handties in aqua pacs.
Its an informal evening in our Ashby shop so come along and bring a friend or meet new ones.
The cost is £85 and includes all materials - you will take away with you a handtie and door wreath worth £50+

16 mile guided bike ride: Active Ageing Week
A 16 mile led bike ride from Snibston Discovery Museum, meet at 10am before following the national cycle route north out of the town to head out in the countryside north of Coaville. The ride heads through Grace Dieu Woods and onto the rural lanes through Belton and Osgathorpe, taking a mid-ride break at the Queens Head in Belton. Meet outside the Museum, where there is free parking.
