Some work – like small house extensions – does not need planning permission.

This type of development is covered under ‘implied planning permission’.  This can be:

  • Some small house extensions
  • Some conservatories
  • Low garden fences and walls.

It is always best to check whether you need planning permission before you start the work.

If you carry out work without the necessary permission, you risk enforcement action, which could even mean knocking down your new extension!

Check whether your work will need planning permission on the Planning Portal website.
