NW Leicestershire District Council: Recycling News

Recycling News

Recycle your household batteries
From 1st February 2010 retailers have a duty to take back used household batteries from their customers.

If you are a householder please take your batteries back to the store where you bought them from or any major retailer so they can be recycled.

How are we doing?

The results are in
In Autumn 2009 we conducted a customer satisfaction survey to find out what you, the residents of North West Leicestershire District, think of the Council's recycling and refuse service.

The results are now in and can be viewed by clicking the link below:

Customer Satisfaction Survey 2009/10

Out thanks to everyone who took the time to complete our survey. Your contributions will be of value to the recycling and refuse service.

Mixed plastics recycling is here!

In a recent survey you told us that you would like to be able to recycle a mixture of types of plastic packaging as well as your plastic bottles.

As the old kerbsiders approach the end of their life they are being gradually phased out and replaced by vehicles which have more space, giving us the opportunity to collect some other types of plastic packaging.

Hello from Dennis
Meet Dennis the Recycling Lorry!
He will be here promoting, encouraging and collecting recycling across the District.

Look out for Dennis in Vision magazine, at recycling promotions, in schools and of course driving down the street collecting your recycling!

Tip of the month

Dennis says"Wash and squash your plastic bottles please"

Squashed bottles
Plastic bottles are very light, bulky and squashable. Instead of ordering an extra box to fit all your plastics in, why not try squashing your plastic bottles? It's easier than you think. Just place the bottle flat on the ground floor and tread lightly on it to squeeze the air out. If you want, you can replace the plastic cap and keep the bottle fully squashed. Plastic milk bottles are particularly fun to squash!

Flattening plastic bottles can double the amount of recycling that will fit in your red box and in the recycling lorry. This means fewer trips to unload the lorry, less mileage, less fuel, and fewer carbon emissions.

Name: Dennis
