Residents in Thringstone are now able to exercise in the fresh air, with the addition of a Green Fitness Gym at the existing play hub on Melrose Road.

North West Leicestershire District Council has invested £12,000 in five items of brightly coloured state of the art fitness equipment, including a rower, a pedal cycle, a space walker, a skier and a chest press. The equipment gives users the chance of a varied workout developing strength, toning, flexibility and general fitness as part of a new healthier lifestyle.

Councillor Alison Smith MBE, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Community Services, said: “Whilst we already know North West Leicestershire is one of the most active localities in Leicestershire, we are constantly looking at new and innovative ways to get people more physically active, and this gym is a prime example of that.

“The equipment is easy to use, with instruction signs on each item giving guidance on the safe use of the kit, and technology allows users to scan QR codes with their mobile device to view video footage of the multiple exercises that can be performed. I really hope all residents of Thringstone will come along and give it a go.”

Councillor Dave Everitt, Ward Member for Thringstone, added: “We feel sure that this equipment will be a welcome addition to the existing play hub at the site attracting, all sorts of people for exercise in the great outdoors, from parents with children and complete novices to experienced athletes. The emphasis here is on fun!”
