Results of North West Leicestershire District Council Planning Committee – Tuesday 4 April

Flagstaff Island, Ashby

At the meeting of Planning Committee held on Tuesday 4 April, two planning applications were permitted, and one was refused. Please see the table below for more detail.

An application for a petrol station, forecourt, parking area, restaurant and cafe – expected to be a KFC and Starbucks - on land off Flagstaff Island, Ashby was approved.

A representative of the applicant, Euro Garages, told the committee the development will create approximately 18 new jobs, and that they hoped to start work at the site as soon as possible, with a target completion date of October.

Ashby Town Council had objected to the application citing, concerns congestion that might be caused by extra traffic using the island.

Speaking about the decision, Chairman of Planning Committee, Councillor David Stevenson said: “We welcome this application finally coming to committee and we look forward to it being built.

“We are also looking forward to the completion of the work to improve the Flagstaff Island which is currently ongoing.”
