Success for many at Coalville job fair

Coalville Job Fair - April 2017

Businesses that attended a job fair held in Coalville last week have offered more than 40 people interviews, which may lead to future employment.

More than 170 job seekers spoke to recruitment agencies, local companies and careers experts at the event, which took place at Stephenson College on Friday 7 April.

The fair, which was organised by North West Leicestershire District Council (NWLDC) in partnership with Jobcentre Plus and Stephenson College, attracted more than 35 employers, including Amazon, Arriva and Champneys Springs Health Resort.

Barrie Walford, Business Focus Team Manager at North West Leicestershire District Council, said: “Our job fairs are very popular with job seekers and people looking for careers advice, as well as businesses that are looking to recruit. We’re really pleased with the outcomes from our latest event, which helps to make sure people have suitable employment within our district whilst continuing to support local businesses – large and small.”

Other organisations offered work advice, particularly around transport to work. Fifteen people benefitted from one to one careers advice during the event, helping them to secure jobs in the future.

PMP – the recruitment company working on behalf of the Amazon distribution centre at Bardon - was pleased with the turnout. “For us the event was amazing,” said Donita Panait from PMP. “More than 20 candidates have taken information and we hope at least half of those will be able to start immediately with Amazon.”

Carol Harvey, General Manager at Champneys Springs Health Resort added: “We had some good interest and it was really varied from a recruitment perspective. It was also a great networking event and gave us the chance to speak with other local businesses about how we can work together.”

Katie Reid from Coalville attended the jobs fair to seek careers advice. “The lady from the National Careers Service was really helpful and productive and I’m really glad I went,” she said. “I’m looking forward to putting into practice some of what I’ve learned today.”
