Results of North West Leicestershire District Council Planning Committee – Tuesday 4 July

At the meeting of Planning Committee held on Tuesday 4 July, two planning application were permitted, and two were rejected. Please see the table below for more detail.

An application for up to 38 homes including a mix of affordable and market properties at Swepstone Road, Heather, was refused.

Speaking about the decision, Chairman of Planning Committee, Councillor David Stevenson said: “After a lengthy debate the councillors decided to refuse this application.

“The committee is currently awaiting news on an appeal regarding another application on a nearby site, which made matters more complicated for the committee members.

“The fundamental concerns that were raised about this development were the facts that it is a Greenfield site that is outside of the development limits in both the current and submitted local plans, and the development was not required because the district is able to robustly evidence a five year housing supply.”

The committee also heard a proposal to squeeze in an extra house to a development that is currently underway in Manor Road, Donington Le Heath. This was refused by the committee.

Plans to convert an existing outbuilding and add a two-storey extension to it, creating a new home off Leicester Road in New Packington, was permitted by the committee.

Finally, an application for a two-storey rear extension and creation of two car parking spaces at a property in Main Street, Whatton, was also approved.
