Set out your stall for Coalville music and picnic events

Picnic 2017 2

Preparations are already under way to bring back two popular family-friendly summer events in Coalville and now’s the time for charities and businesses to get involved.

Music and Picnic in the Park take place back to back over Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 June with around 5,000 people attending over the weekend last year.

Both are organised by North West Leicestershire District Council (NWLDC) and involve a mix of attractions including live performances and music, family entertainment, food and drink.

Music in the Park – formerly Proms in the Park – takes place in Coalville Park between 6pm and 9.30pm on Saturday 23 June. This is followed by Picnic in the Park between noon and 5.30pm on Sunday 24 June, also in Coalville Park.Picnic 2017 1

On the Sunday, one of the most important elements to the success of the event is the community and charity stalls that offer local goods, raise funds or simply create awareness of activities that are going on in our district.

Councillor Alison Smith MBE, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Community Services at NWLDC, said: “Over the years this weekend has established itself as a real favourite for families across the district.

“Support from the community helps make these events so special, and it is a great opportunity for local business, charities and organisations to showcase what they’re all about.  We like to have a diverse offering of stalls and stands for guests to enjoy, so please get in touch in you are interesting in being a part of the weekend.”

Last year’s Picnic in the Park featured Take That tribute band - Take This, Beneath the Lights, Desford Colliery Band and Belvoirdale Primary School choir. Away from the music there were Wild West Shows, stilt walkers, a bubbleologist and a balloon modeller to keep everyone entertained.

The then-named Proms in the Park event included young Leicestershire singer Justice Beach, Concordia Choir and the fabulous Ockbrook Big Band.

For this year’s event anyone interested in having a stall or pitch can apply to have one from £22 depending on space required. For an application form please email cultural.services@nwleicestershire.gov.uk  or call Julia Harley on 01530 454604.
