This Bank Holiday weekend will mark the re-opening of one of the UK’s last remaining open air pools – right here in North West Leicestershire.
The open-air lido at Hood Park Leisure Centre in Ashby will officially open for the summer season on Saturday 26 May, with admission on the opening day just £1.
Over the Bank Holiday weekend the pool will open at 9am with rafts and floats in the pool from 11am and the poolside barbecue being lit at midday.
Swimmers are encouraged to bring sun cream if the weather is warm as the patio areas around the pool are a great sun trap.
Following the opening, the lido is open for daily public swimming sessions every day during school holidays and at the weekends during term time (weather permitting).
The pool, which is also a popular venue for parties and celebrations, is available for private hire in the evenings from June to September, with barbeques and inflatables added.
Parties are available most nights of the week throughout the season. Prices start from £165, including lifeguards, and you can add BBQ’s and the inflatable to that at an additional price.
Councillor Alison Smith MBE, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Community Services at NWLDC, said: “Every year swimmers, families and children enjoy our wonderful outdoor pool, and we’re very proud to have it in Ashby-de-la-Zouch.
“Public support helps us to keep the pool open for everyone to enjoy so please come along with your friends and family, and enjoy a swim this summer.
“Don’t forget the pool can also be hired for private parties and offers something that little bit different for a special occasion.”
