Flag to be raised in show of support for Armed Forces Day

Armed Forces Day 2017

North West Leicestershire District Council (NWLDC) will show its support for Britain’s Armed Forces with a flag raising ceremony at its Council Offices.

The Armed Forces Day flag will be raised at the offices in Coalville at 10.30am on Monday 25 June and flown for one week.

The flag will be raised by the Chairman of the Council, Councillor John Clarke.

Armed Forces Day itself is on Saturday 30 June.

The day is an annual opportunity for the nation to show its support for the men and women who make up the armed forces community.

This is now the fifth Armed Forces Day marked by North West Leicestershire District Council since the signing of its Armed Forces Community Covenant – a public pledge to support the district’s armed forces community.

The council’s dedicated Armed Forces Champion is Councillor Alison Smith MBE, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Community Services.  She said: “It’s important we show our gratitude and thanks to the brave hard work and dedication shown by our armed forces.

“They keep us safe and free, and raising the Armed Forces Day flag is one way of showing how proud we are of those that serve our country.

“I would like to encourage members of the community to join us at the flag raising on Monday morning.”

A whole host of events have been planned around the country for Armed Forces Day itself and the weeks leading up to it, with businesses and communities showing their support.

A list of these events can be found at
