Planning Committee gives serviced apartments plan the nod

An application to create serviced apartments on High Street, Kegworth, was approved by the North West Leicestershire District Council (NWLDC) Planning Committee on Tuesday 7 August 2018.

The property will comprise of four one-bedroom and two two-bedroom apartments, primarily expected to be occupied by people working at East Midlands Airport and East Midlands Gateway.

Speaking at the committee, the applicant explained that as the building is in a conservation area, it was important to him that it stays in keeping with the listed buildings nearby. He added that it was good for local economy and that the bus stop right outside the building would allow commuters simple travel to the airport.

A representative of Kegworth Parish Council spoke against the application; mainly citing concerns over parking on Main Street. It was argued that each tenant would own a vehicle and there was very limited space to park on the road.

Speaking about the decision, Chair of Planning Committee, Councillor Nigel Smith, said: “We understood the concerns raised by the parish council about traffic and parking on the road as a result of this application. However, the committee had to be guided by the report from the highways department at the county council, which made it absolutely clear that they had no concerns or objections about parking on the road.”

An application to build 10 new homes on Forest Road, Coalville, was deferred to be considered at a future meeting. This was after new information came to light just ahead of the meeting that needs to be considered by committee members.
