Nominations are now open for North West Leicestershire’s annual celebration of outstanding contributions to sport and health.

The North West Leicestershire Local Sports Alliance Sport and Health Awards return to Hermitage Leisure Centre in Whitwick on Thursday 28 November.

The night provides a fantastic opportunity for the community to recognise and reward local people, athletes, coaches, volunteers, sports clubs and schools within North West Leicestershire whose achievements and leadership inspire and motivate others.

Last year Leoni Fielding won the Junior Volunteer of the Year award for her volunteering at Coalville Football Club, helping to train younger players and becoming a real role-model at the club. Ashby Castle Tennis Club’s fund-raising, inclusivity, promotion of junior involvement and disability programme helped land them the Sports Club of the Year.

There are lots more people and clubs just like these in North West Leicestershire that deserve recognition too, and now is the time to nominate them.

Nominations can be made at www.nwleics.gov.uk/sportandhealthawards in 15 categories for athletes, coaches, volunteers, clubs and schools who have achieved highly between September 2018 and September 2019. The deadline for nominations is Sunday 29 September.

The categories are:

Councillor Andrew Woodman, Portfolio Holder for Community Services at North West Leicestershire District Council, said: “This is your chance to nominate the teams, sportspeople, coaches and volunteers that you feel deserve recognition for their services to sport and health in our district.

“We had some fantastic winners last year and we know there are plenty more talented and devoted unsung heroes in North West Leicestershire that are deserving of praise. Now is the time to get nominating!”
