Party planners preparing for the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day can access a grant to boost their special event.
Community groups, parish councils, voluntary organisations and schools can all apply to receive £250 from North West Leicestershire District Council (NWLDC) ahead of VE Day on Friday 8 May 2020.
The Government has announced the Friday will be a Bank Holiday to allow people to celebrate victory in World War II and surrender to the Allies on 8 May 1945.
Funding applications will be considered for projects with a celebration VE Day theme which could include community parties, exhibitions, historical talks, a VE Day dance or similar events.
Councillor Andrew Woodman, Portfolio Holder for Community Services at NWLDC, said: “VE Day is a great opportunity for communities to join together to celebrate the anniversary of victory in the Second World War. It’s also an important opportunity to remember all those that gave their lives to keep our country free.
“We want to support communities with their events by offering this opportunity of a £250 grant. We hope the funding will help make the celebrations extra special and help to bring more people together. Groups, councils, schools and community organisations can head to our website to complete the simple application process.”
Applications for the grants should be submitted online by visiting www.nwleics.gov.uk/VEDay
The closing date for applications is Friday 3 April.
