Community group calls for new recruits and feedback to enhance park

A local community group that has campaigned to improve Coalville Park is looking for new volunteers and will host an event to raise its profile.

Residents looking to get involved in the community and share feedback on Coalville Park are invited to come along to an awareness event on Saturday 28 January.

During the event, which will take place between 11am and 1pm, attendees can get a free coffee courtesy of the Rural Community Council, chat to The Friends of Coalville Park and learn more about volunteering opportunities.

Since it was formed in 2019, The Friends of Coalville Park has secured funding from Veolia and North West Leicestershire District Council (NWLDC) to transform the park’s play equipment.

Representatives from NWLDC will also be on hand to answer queries about the park, including any action that’s being taken to stamp out vandalism following recent incidents.

Councillor Andrew Woodman, Portfolio Holder for Community Services at NWLDC, said: “This event is a great opportunity for local people to find out how to get involved in a rewarding community project.

“It’s also a chance for anyone to share feedback, or voice concerns they have and find out more about the plans the group has to continue improving the park.

“So come down, have a chat, grab a free coffee and see what the group has got lined up to keep improving the park.”

Kate Insley, Chair of The Friends of Coalville Park, said: “We’re always looking for new members and suggestions to help us to keep improving Coalville Park.

“Everyone is welcome to come along and find out more about what we’ve got lined up and how they can get involved – we look forward to seeing you there!”
