CCTV is used as a tool for crime prevention and detection. It helps prevent crime and the fear of crime. We manage the CCTV service for North West Leicestershire.
We have more than 30 cameras cover Coalville, Ashby de la Zouch, Agar Nook and Greenhill estate.
Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) is a television system which operates on a 'closed loop' basis.
CCTV pictures are only available to those directly connected to the loop. In North West Leicestershire only the CCTV control room is connected.
Pictures from the cameras are monitored at a central monitoring control room.
We tell the Police about incidents as they arise - and we can direct officers to the exact location.
The images are kept secure for 31 days - after which they are destroyed unless the footage is required by the police in connection with a crime.
In addition to deterring and detecting crime and anti social behaviour, CCTV can also be used in a number of other situations including finding lost people and monitoring large scale events such as the Christmas lights switch on.
