NWL Swim Academy
Swimming lessons at Hermitage and Hood Park Leisure Centres have just undergone one of the biggest changes to learning to swim within the District.
Since the end of 2014 not only did the name of the swimming lesson programme change to NWL Swim Academy but children attending the academy now benefit from fantastic, cutting edge developments that offer a new approach to swim progression and parent interaction.
Swim Academy teachers now record swimmers attendance and also their achievements using I-pods, in waterproof cases, on poolside which then allow parents to go online via ‘NWL Swim Academy online’ and see exactly how their child is doing.
At the same time, children are now taught using the Amateur Swim Association's (ASA) National Plan which means that children will move when they are ready to as opposed to having to wait until the end of their 12 week course. Changing to the ASA National Plan also means that children will progress through the stages much quicker, something that parents have asked to see as an improvement to the old Learn To Swim lesson programme.
Through the state of the art technology, once a child has reached the required standard and a place becomes available, the parent will then receive an email from the Swim Academy co-ordinator with a choice of classes available that the parent can select from to move to and once selected the change will happen from the following week.
With the introduction of the ASA National Plan children learning to swim are now also be given the chance, if they choose to, to learn synchronized swim and swim and save.
