WINTER WILSON in concert - Moira
The National Forest Folk Club, at our NEW VENUE:
MOIRA VILLAGE HALL, DAYBELL ROAD, MOIRA, NEAR ASHBY DE LA ZOUCH, DE12 6DZ
WE'RE BACK, AND WE ARE NOW READY AND WAITING FOR YOU AT OUR SPARKLY NEW VENUE!
Friday 10th May at 8.00 pm
We are so happy to be able to bring you this wonderful duo to open up our new adventures in folk music in the Moira metropolis.
When Mike Harding dubbed Winter Wilson as one of the hardest working duos on the circuit, he'd clearly done his homework. Kip Winter and Dave Wilson have performed in Germany, Australia, Spain, Canada, Belgium and New Zealand.
They've released a string of critically acclaimed albums, one of the highlights being “Live & Unconventional”. Recorded on tour and at Cropredy Festival with folk rock icons Fairport Convention, the reviews were exceptional:
"If you need evidence of just how special the duo Winter Wilson is, then “Live & Unconventional” delivers in abundance." RnR magazine
"This is a brilliant, exceptionally well-recorded live album that really does convince that Kip and Dave are well and truly at the top of their game." Living Tradition Magazine.
It is in live performance where these two really excel. Kip Winter and Dave Wilson bring a sense of intimacy to every venue, blending superb, often hard-hitting original songs, stunning harmonies and musicianship with sometimes hilarious humour and tales of life on the road.
Kip (vocals, accordion, guitar, flute) "simply has a voice to die for” (Maverick Magazine), whilst Dave (vocals, guitar and banjo) is now rightly recognised as being amongst the top tier of British songwriters, with his songs sung in folk clubs across the UK and beyond.
Together, their voices are sublime. You will laugh; you may cry. You will certainly want to see them again!
Here they are singing just a couple of their songs.

Annie Duggan & Rob Hines Music in the Kiln @ Sharpe's pottery

Tickets £10 from Sharpe's tel; 01283 222600 or website www.sharpespotterymuseum.org.uk. Also check out Ann's website www.annduggan.co.uk Here is a review from a recent show -
The pairing of powerhouse vocalist Annie Duggan with exceptional guitarist Rob Hines is a match made in … well, possibly Clarksdale Mississippi (as mentioned in their pre-show publicity) or Nashville Tennessee, or the backwoods of Alabama. Take your pick, but the ‘roots’ of their music undoubtedly originate from the diverse strands of blues, country, folk and jazz that combine in the melting pot of ‘Americana’.
To classify their music as one or other of these genres would be to do them a disservice, as their mastery of each and all is palpably plain to witness in their performance.
Annie opened with an acappella version of ‘You Are My Sunshine’, owing more to the Ray Charles version than the Andy Williams, her voice both powerful and expressive, encompassing the grit and growl of the blues, the more mellow tones of country music, and the subtlety of the jazz stylists. She employs all of these devices within her repertoire, including standard classics from those genres, and original compositions from the pen of erstwhile collaborator Colin Granger.
The empathy between Annie and guitarist Rob Hines is all encompassing, and his impressive technique allows him to employ both rhythmic subtlety and impressive interjectory extemporisations in his accompaniments. His solo excursions were truly amazing, the powerful propulsive drive of the country bluesman in tandem with the Scotty Moore ‘Sun Sound’ Elvis era rockabilly ‘licks’, and an occasional hint of Spanish flamenco, a truly amazing combination of influences finding a home in his one man guitar ‘orchestra’!

The Lachrimae Consort – An Entertainment of Elizabethan Music
“An Entertainment of Elizabethan Music”
The Lachrimae Consort returns with a wonderful evening programme which includes instrumental music and songs from the time of Queen Elizabeth and Shakespeare.
The “consort of six” became very popular following the Queen’s visit to Kenilworth Castle in 1575 when Lord Leicester employed the most famous musicians of the land. This new and unique combination of blown, plucked and bowed instruments (flute, lutes and viols) found a place in many noble households, especially if they were expecting a visit from the Queen! Sir Francis Walsingham, the Queen’s Secretary of State, maintained such a consort and his music books survive.
The evening’s programme is enhanced by entertaining readings, including some from the great Bard of Stratford-upon-Avon.
