Car Parking Review 2024

This year, we’re reviewing our car parking charges. To help with this, we want to hear from you about how you use our car parks.

As a first step, please complete this short online survey  between Friday 10 May and Sunday 2 June.

The results of this survey will give us a good idea about how people use our car parks in the various parts of our district.

These are the proposals we’d like you to have your say on:

  • Two hours free parking in all council car parks in Coalville, with charges beyond two hours mirroring the Belvoir Shopping Centre tariff
  • Charges increased in Ashby to be in line with similar charges in neighbouring district and borough councils
  • Review electric vehicle charging points in council car parks
  • Two hours free parking in all council car parks across the district (except Ashby), with charges applied after this
  • North Street and South Street car parks in Ashby changed to become short stay (short stay car parks in Ashby are 4-hour maximum stay)
  • A new long stay car park at Money Hill in Ashby, including an electric vehicle charging hub.

If you require more information, please email parking@nwleicestershire.gov.uk

Payment

Our parking machines only accept payment via contactless cards, we stopped taking coin payments in March 2020. Payment can also be made using the PaybyPhone app or calling their phone lines., instructions can be found on the parking machines.

Car parks in the villages are FREE:  small car parks which are free of charge.

All the car parks are governed by the Car Parking Places Orders

Electric vehicle charging pods

We have installed electric vehicle charging points in a number of our car parks to support local residents and visitors and encourage the adoption of electric vehicles.

All the locations are listed on at zap-map.com. Further details about the charging points can also be found at www.pod-point.com.

Pay & Display charges still apply when using the parking bays.

Sale of car parks to unlock Coalville regeneration

Three of Coalville's town centre car parks have been sold to Gylo, the owners of the Belvoir Shopping Centre as part of a regeneration deal. These car parks are at Bridge Road, Needhams Walk and North Service Road. The Belvoir shopping centre will directly manage its car park operation through Parking Eye. As these car parks are no longer under the council's ownership, all matters relating to parking at these locations will need to be directed to Parking Eye on 01772 450970.

Leicestershire County Council is the Highway Authority and is responsible for on-street parking. Our Civil Enforcement Officers enforce the restrictions on behalf of the county.

Parking regulations include illegal parking on single and double yellow lines, disabled parking bays, and in bus stops and taxi ranks.
