Picture of a Diffusion Tube at a sampling locationNO2 diffusion tubes are used for ambient air monitoring within the district.

They can be an excellent tool for any pollution assessment survey or on-going study. They are capable of providing long term assessments for modelling or determining air management locations at a low cost.

They consist of an acrylic tube fitted with a coloured and a white thermoplastic rubber cap. The coloured cap contains the absorbent with Triethanolamine. This reacts with Nitrogen Dioxide molecules in the air.

This reaction occures at a known rate defined by the concentration of Nitrogen Dioxide in the air. The concentrations of Nitrite ions in the Triethanolamine - and hence NO2 chemically absorbed - are quantitatively determined by UV/ Visible Spectrophotometry with reference to a calibration curve derived from the analysis of standard nitrite solutions.

Tube dimensions : 71mm length x 11mm internal diameter
