Elections - Referendums

The Local Government Act 2000

The Local Authorities (Referendums) (Petitions and Directions) (England) Regulations 2000

These regulations provide for a referendum to be held where at least 5% of the local government electors in a local authority's area petition the authority for a referendum on whether the authority should operate executive arrangements which involve an elected Mayor.

The regulations require the Council to publish the number of electors that is equal to 5% of the number registered to vote at a local government election within the North West Leicestershire District as shown on the Electoral Register on the 15th February 2011. This number (known as the verification number) will have effect for the purposes of determining the validity of petitions presented between 1 April 2011 and 31 March 2012.

The verification number published for the District of North West Leicestershire for this period is 3607
