Emergencies

Under the Civil Contingencies act 2004 North West Leicestershire District Council has been allocated responsibilities as a Category 1 Responder for public safety.

Through its Civil Contingency Officer post it will work closely with other District Councils in Leicestershire, the Emergency Management Section of Leicestershire County Council and through partners who are represented on the Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland Local Resilience Forum. Due to the geographical location of North West Leicestershire it is also important that we work closely and consult with some district councils in neighbouring Counties.

The responsibilities of the District Council are far reaching but under the Civil Contingencies Act, Category 1 Responders are required to carry out risk assessments, where appropriate put emergency plans into place including it own Business Continuity Plan and maintain public awareness about the identified risks.

Leicestershire County Council Emergency Management Section

The Emergency Management section at Leicestershire County Council provides support to the District Councils areas such as transport, highways, social care and business continuity to name but a few. .

Local Resilience Forum

The Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Local Resilience Forum brings together all partners with a responsibility for emergency planning including the blue light services. The Forum offers information and advice to residents, visitors and businesses. It undertakes preparation for and a response to major incidents and emergencies. The Local Resilience website also provides links to government and non government advice sources for a wide variety of emergencies.
