Care Leavers

A care leaver is someone under the age of 25 who has been looked after by Leicestershire County Council as a child. We know that leaving care involves a lot of changes and we’re committed to making this a positive and exciting next step in your life. Working in partnership with Leicestershire County Council and care leavers we have developed a local offer for North West Leicestershire to help support this;

Housing and Council Tax

We will support care leavers to become successful and responsible tenants in order to prevent homelessness and avoid placements in temporary accommodation. We will do this through;

• Offering advice on housing options available
• Offering support into suitable and sustainable accommodation
• Offering a discount on council tax.

Work and Training

We want to support care leavers to be able to get into work or training. We will do this through;

• Ensuring every care leaver registered with us is notified of all job vacancies within the council
• Offering support, advice, and guidance on any Human Resource related issue, including completing job application forms
• Offering work experience placements and apprenticeships within the council
• Guaranteeing job interviews for care leavers if they have the minimum requirements for the job

Sport and Physical Activity

In order to support physical and mental health and wellbeing, we want care leavers to be able to have opportunities to be physically active. We will do this through;

• Providing opportunities within the community to be active
• Through our leisure partner, Everyone Active, providing opportunities within leisure centres to be active
• Creating a bespoke activity programme to meet the specific needs of care leavers
