What We Do

We are responsible for determining building regulation applications - which includes inspecting projects to make sure the work meets the standards expected.

The District Council is also responsible for enforcing the Building Regulations on those rare occasions projects don’t meet the standards or the law is not followed.

The council keeps a register of work carried out by those who self certify (Competent Persons), provided of course they notify their registration body or scheme first.

The District Council, or the Secretary of State, are responsible for relaxing Building Regulation requirements on any given project.

The District Council also holds the register of Initial Notices. These are legal notices served on the council by Approved Inspectors.

We also deal with dangerous structures and demolition notices

Membership

LABC LogoThe District Council is a member of LABC, and actively works with surrounding councils to deliver a consistent local authority building control service.

LABC is a member led organisation that represents all local authority building control teams in England and Wales, and is actively involved in raising standards in Building Control.
