Customer Website

New applications and re-applications

We opened a new customer website in April. All new applications and any existing customers looking to remain on the housing register need to complete a housing application and provide supporting evidence.

You will need to set up an account by clicking the REGISTER option before you can complete your housing application.

The website for applications is Housing Jigsaw

PLEASE NOTE that you are unlikely to hear back about your housing application immediately as we have a large number to process. You will receive notifications by email if the status of your application changes including if we need further information from you.

Have a Homeless Application?

If you have an open homeless application with us then you still need to re-apply for housing but we will be dealing with your application in a different way as your housing band will need to be reassessed in line with our new Allocations Policy rules on homeless bandings. If you need to take action then we will be in touch with you.

Property bidding

The last advertising cycle on our old system was Thursday 22nd to Tuesday 27th August. There will then be a two week break to allow us to prepare for the move. Advertising will begin on our new customer portal on September the 12th.

Further information for existing applicants who need to re-apply on the new customer portal

Applicants with an existing housing application will also need to register for an account AND complete a new application form. This is to ensure that your details are up to date and available for Housing Providers. Support to re-apply is available for those who need it.

Existing Applicants Should Read This Information

Applying for Social Housing (The Housing Register)

You  can apply for social housing in the District by completing an online application form on our customer portal (Housing Jigsaw). An email address is required in order to register your details. If you do not have access to an email address then please contact us so we can support you to apply.

We allocate social housing through a Choice Based Lettings Scheme. Available properties are advertised on a weekly basis. Once your application has been accepted you can choose to put yourself forward for any properties that you are interested in and are eligible for.

Our Choice Based Lettings scheme gives you access to properties managed by North West Leicestershire District Council and properties in the District that are managed by other social housing providers (Housing Associations).

When your application is assessed we decide the size and type of properties that will meet the needs of your household.  We also decide what priority you will receive for housing. Households with a greater need to move receive preference over those who already have suitable accommodation.  Social housing is in limited supply and certain properties and areas are in high demand. You should be aware of this before you apply as it means it may take time to find a property and you may not easily find the type or size of property you are seeking.

Information on who qualifies for social housing and how properties are allocated can be found in our Allocations Policy.

To be accepted onto our Choice Based Lettings Scheme you normally need to have a connection to North West Leicestershire District, have a lower income and be able to manage a tenancy including regularly paying your rent. You will also need to be eligible for social housing in th UK. This is based on your citizenship or  immigration status.

Specialist Accommodation

The Council manages a variety of housing for different needs. We have sheltered accommodation for older people (usually over 60's) with community facilities and maintained open spaces and we are able to provide accommodation with visiting support and alarm systems for those who need it.

EMH Homes manage Springfields, a supported living complex for over 55's in Ashby. One and two bedroom apartments are available for renting or shared ownership with flexible care and support packages. Click here for further information and to express interest

Alternative Housing Options

Social housing is in limited supply and this means that it can take a long time to be housed, especially if you don't have an urgent need to move. The type of properties you will be eligible for are also limited so if you are seeking housing larger than your needs or would like a wider choice of properties then you may also want to explore other housing options for example mutual exchange, private renting or affordable home ownership.

Contact Us

Phone lines for the Choice Based Lettings Team are available 9am to 1pm Monday to Friday and until 5pm on a Tuesday.

You can also visit us in the Council's Customer Centre on Belvoir Road in Coalville. To ensure someone is available to help please contact us to book an appointment slot.
