Families are invited to enjoy a free two-day event celebrating Coalville Park’s 125-year anniversary.

Organised by North West Leicestershire District Council (NWLDC) and Friends of Coalville Park, Celebrate 125 Years of Coalville Park will take place Saturday 29 June and Sunday 30 June in Coalville Park.

Three events over two days will take place:

-        Saturday 29 June 11am until 2pm – Friends of Coalville Park have invited local sports clubs, societies and other active travel agencies to promote their activities. People can get involved by taking part in the free activities, including tennis, sports games, rounders and learning about the best ways to get out and active in Coalville.

-       Saturday 29 June 6pm until 9.30pm – An evening of live music from Mudslide Band and the Carton Kings Band as well as a wide selection of street food to enjoy.

-       Sunday 30 June 12pm until 5.30pm – live music from Real Monsters Band, The Inspired Band and Leicestershire Co op brass band. There will be charity stalls, children’s rides, family entertainment and much more.

Visitors should be aware there is no on-site parking so use the town centre car parks and walk to the park from there. Accessible parking is available by kind permission of St Wilfred’s Church, London Road, Coalville. Please avoid parking on surrounding residential roads.

This event will be replacing the usual Picnic in the Park event.

Paul Wheatley, Head of Property and Economic Regeneration at NWLDC, said: “We are thrilled to be organising this special event to commemorate Coalville Park’s 125-year anniversary.

“This event is a fantastic opportunity for families to enjoy a variety of different activities, including live music, sports games, community stalls and much more all for free, so come and get involved.

“The park has been an iconic part of Coalville for 125 years and this is a great way of celebrating its history and bringing people together.”

Andrew Bucknall, the events lead for the Friends of Coalville Park 125th anniversary event, said: “The Friends of Coalville Park (FoCP) group is excited to be delivering the Saturday daytime events for the 125 year celebration.

“Everyone is invited to join us, all activities are free of charge and you are welcome to bring a picnic.

“Members of the group will be there on the day to discuss how you can also join the FoCP community group and other activities put on throughout the year.”
