The Chairman
The Chairman of North West Leicestershire District Council is a role of tradition given to a councillor for one year. The Chairman is the First Citizen of the district and represents the council at civic functions and events within North West Leicestershire and beyond.
The current Chairman, Councillor Ray Morris, took up the position on Tuesday 23 May 2023.
The role is customary, does not carry any decision making duties, and is non-political and non-partisan.
During the Chairman’s term of office it has also been traditional for them to nominate a charity appeal to raise funds for and support throughout the year.
Councillor Morris' chosen charity is Steps.
Inviting the Chairman to attend an event
Local organisations may wish to invite the Chairman to attend a specific function they are organising, e.g. festivals, social group meetings, presentations, community projects, open days, exhibitions, parades and new business launches to name a few.
Invitations will be considered on a first come, first served basis, however, should the Chairman not be available for an event, the Chairman’s office will pass the invitation to the Deputy Chairman.
