If you are intending to cut down, top, lop or uproot any tree in a conservation area, you must give the District Council six weeks notice of your intention to do so. This gives the District Council the opportunity to consider making a Tree Preservation Order where appropriate. 

A notification of this kind would not attract a fee. This requirement does not apply to trees subject to Tree Preservation Orders, which are subject to separate legislation. Nor does it apply to trees that are less than 75mm in diameter when measured at 1.5m above ground level.
