In June 2019 we adopted the Shop Fronts and Advertisements supplementary planning document (SPD). The SPD will guide the council in determining relevant applications for Planning Permission or Advertisement Consent. It supplements national and local planning policies relating to the conservation of the historic environment, the design of new development generally and the design of shop fronts specifically. It contains guidance on inclusive access that reflects the guidance in Building Regulations Approved Document M.

The retail centres at Ashby, Castle Donington, Coalville, Ibstock, Kegworth and Measham are designated as conservation areas. The SPD will ensure that shop fronts are well designed and it will ensure that our conservation areas maintain their special interest.

Coalville local development order

We have also prepared a local development order (LDO) for Coalville town centre. The LDO supports the continuation of our frontage improvement scheme. It would allow certain works to shop fronts to be carried out without the need for Planning Permission.

Please use the link below to find out more about the LDO.
