Support on coronavirus for local sports clubs, voluntary, charitable and community organisations, and businesses

We are currently dealing with some of the most challenging circumstances and know that now more than ever your organisation may need a bit of extra support. We are therefore committed to sharing support information with you and we will keep this page updated regularly.

Get in touch

COVID-19 - question mark

To fully understand what support our community organisations and businesses require and the challenges that they are facing, we would like to hear from you.

Organisations that operate within some capacity in the sport, health and fitness sector based in North West Leicestershire should get in touch with us to;

  • give feedback on any impact that coronavirus (COVID-19) has already had on your organisation
  • ask questions related to any support your organisation may require
  • get advice on making any possible funding applications or local grants available

If you would like to feedback to us about any impact that coronavirus (COVID-19) has already had on your organisation, or that you are worried it will have, please contact the following staff from the Health and wellbeing team;

Emma Knight: or 01530 454835

Please note: Due to our current circumstances, we are experiencing limited staffing capacity. Please still get in touch with your questions and challenges and the team will respond as soon as possible.

Support for all

To ensure that we are supporting a joint approach to helping our organisations we are working with partners Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport.

As such we urge you and your organisation to visit their webpage first for organisational support as a result of COVID-19, and follow the recommended steps.

Their page provides the following step by step approach:

Step 1: Check standard government support

Step 2: Access FREE business advice

Step 3: If you are not eligible for the government grants, perhaps the new fund available through Sport England could help

Step 4: Check out any other local grants

We encourage you to follow this approach.

More information about the Sport England funding

You will see once you have visited this page that step 3, only after working through steps 1 & 2, includes visiting the Sport England site and reading more about the £195m package and the support this can provide through their £20m community emergency fund.

What is it?

Sport England are making £20m available (Community Emergency Fund) to those organisations that fall between the gaps of the funding set out by Government. They recognise that this funding will not help all, however it will be used for those in greatest need. Grants are available between £300 and £10,000.

The Sport England funding is ONLY to be applied for if no other funding is available such as funding direct from the government to support business.

Who is it for?

  • Local Sports Clubs
  • Voluntary and community sector organisations that deliver or enable sport and/or physical activity.
  • Small charitable trusts
  • Regional or county level organisations or leagues

Other possible local grants

As part of step 4 please read through the other information available on the page, and if appropriate visit the Leicestershire Communities Coronavirus information page directly for further generalised information.

Leicestershire Communities and Leicestershire County Council have released a COVID-19 funding bulletin for April 2020. This bulletin provides information on grants that have been made available to primarily support local voluntary & community sector organisations, including charities and social enterprises. Have a read through the 14 that they have identified including grants from the Arts Council, Charities Aid Foundation (CAF), Crisis, and the National Lottery Community Fund, plus many more.

The Leicestershire Communities fund 2020 has been established providing a £1m fund to support the local voluntary and community sector, during the current Coronavirus pandemic.
