Welcome to Leisure Services
Health and Wellbeing
Our Health and Wellbeing Team provides opportunities for the whole community to be more active and improve their health and wellbeing, specifically targeting those that are inactive and those who have or are at risk of health issues that can be improved through being active. In addition, our Health Improvement offer co-ordinates partners across the district in order to improve health generally through the delivery of the NWL Health and Wellbeing Strategy.
Our Sports Development Officer co-ordinates and supports the work of the Local Sports Alliance which aims to get more people participating in sport, using sport as a tool to help tackle health inequalities, and supporting local sports clubs, athletes and volunteers to continually develop. We also work with partners to ensure the delivery of the NWL Playing Pitch Strategy and NWL Sports and Recreation Facilities Framework.
We support our leisure partner, Everyone Active, in the day to day running of Hermitage and Hood Park Leisure Centres. In addition, we are joint managing the Leisure Centres Project which will see the building of the new Coalville Leisure Centre and a £1.2 million refurbishment of Hood Park Leisure Centre which has now been completed.
We support our partners in the management of the leisure facilities in Measham, Ibstock, Castle Donington and at Newbridge High School. This includes supporting the delivery of £1m of council investment to improve the fitness provision at 3 of these sites.
Parks and Open Spaces
We maintain all the district council's parks and open spaces; 155 hectares of open space on an ongoing basis, as well as being responsible for areas within Coalville. This includes Coalville Forest Adventure Park, Nature Alive, and Coalville Park, for which we recently achieved Green Flag status.....the first in the district. We specialise in grounds maintenance and undertake work on behalf of numerous organisations.
