Green Living Leicestershire Partnership - working together to make a difference
Green Living Leicestershire is a partnership between Leicestershire authorities to collaborate to deliver projects supporting sustainability and net zero - the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions to as close to zero as possible.
The partnership works together on projects which support delivery of objectives in relation to environmental protection and improvement, including energy efficiency, carbon reduction, climate adaptation and resilience, nature recovery and resource efficiency, sustainable transport, circular economy and community engagement.
Green Living Leicestershire partnership members are:
- Blaby District Council
- Charnwood Borough Council
- Harborough District Council
- Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council
- Leicestershire County Council
- Melton Borough Council
- North West Leicestershire District Council
- Oadby and Wigston Borough Council
Projects run by the Green Living Leicestershire partnership may include all or a group of the above local authorities. Details of projects can be found on North West Leicestershire District Council web pages - see links below - and also on other individual local authorities websites.
All member authorities have signed the Leicestershire Climate and Nature Pact. The success of the pact depends on residents, businesses, local authorities and other organisations in the county all working together. The pact calls upon organisations and groups across the county to sign the pact and play their part in combating climate change and ecological decline.
Partnership projects to date:
- Sustainable Warmth, the provision of grant funding to private residents to improve the energy efficiency of their homes
- Solar Together, a innovative group buying scheme for solar panels (2022, 2023, 2024) supporting Leicestershire households and small businesses to purchase solar panels and battery storage systems at competitive prices.
- Net Zero toolkit for Parish Councils and Community Groups: this resource empowers community groups and residents to contribute to the transition to net zero and play their part in our Zero Carbon Roadmap. The toolkit included helpful tips and advise and has been designed as a starting point on identifying local carbon sources, setting reduction targets and engaging community participation in sustainability initiatives.
Current projects:
- Solar Together, the third group buying scheme run in 2024 has now closed for applications with installations currently underway
- Home Upgrade Grant, this programme offers the funding for homeowners without mains gas to enhance their energy efficiency. Eligible households include those using electric, heating oil, LPG or solid fuel who meet the household income level criteria or postcode priorities.
- ECO Flex - through the government’s Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme, qualifying householders can receive funding for heating upgrades or home insulation improvements. This iniative aims to enhance energy efficiency for lower-income homes and is active until March 2026.
- HERO (Home Energy Retrofit Offer) - this programme provides tailored support for residents living in energy-inefficient homes. Eligible residents can receive home visits to help them access grant funding and identify improvements to enhance energy efficiency. This offer is provided by the Public Health Warm Homes service which has local and national initiatives supporting affordable warmth.
- A project is underway to deliver Solar PV charging hubs as well as exploring car clubs and rural EV charging (LEVI grant funding). If you are interested in runnng a car club or installing rural EV charging, please contact Julia Marshall, Climate Change Programme Manager, on julia.marshall@nwleicestershire.gov.uk.
